Two Hills and District Agricultural Society Scholarship

The Scholarships will recognize and encourage students to enter post-secondary study. The Scholarships are designed to stimulate the pursuit of excellence by rewarding outstanding achievement. The scholarships are also intended as a process by which young people can bring fresh ideas and attitudes to The Two Hills & District Agricultural Society. This scholarship is not limited to students in their first year of post-secondary study and is open to any field of study.

Scholarships to be awarded

Two separate scholarships will be awarded, each valued at $1,000.00 each.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet at least two of the following:

  • Enrolled or applied for enrolment at any accredited post-secondary institution in Canada.
  • A Graduate of a school within the County of Two Hills

Selection process

Each recipient will be selected on the basis of:

  • Academic achievement in the previous year.
  • Evidence of community involvement.
  • A 300-500 word essay on a specified topic.

2011 Scholarship Winners

Laura Antoniuk and Shyann Bachelet are the Two Hills & District Agricultural Society Scholarship Winners for 2011.

Laura is looking forward to receiving her RN from the facility of Nursing at Grant MacEwan University this spring.  Laura believes that being involved in 4-H and volunteerint throughout her childhood established the values and morals of being a caring person.  This led her to choose nursing as a career.  We wish the best of luck to Laura!

Shyann Bachelet is attending the Legal Assistant (Paralegal) Program at Grant MacEwan University.  Shyann says, “Being a paralegal would allow me to seek justice for those who are wronged.”  Yes, Erin Brockowich has been an inspiration to Shyann.  We are pleased to be able to assist Shyann in her education goals.

2010 Scholarship Winners

The Two Hills and District Agricultural Society if pleased to announce the 2010 Scholarship winners are Shaylene Bachelet and Jacklyn Denman.

 Jacklyn Denman is currently enrolled at the University of Lethbridge in a Bachelor of Management, Major in Economics and Minor in Social Responsibility.  After graduating from Two Hills High School, Jacklyn attended Grant MacEwan University for two years before transferring to the University of Lethbridge.  As part of the University of Lethbridge Student Exchange Program, she attended the Poznam University of Economics in Poland. Jacklyn writes about Poznan University experience, “Poland was an unforgettable and extremely valuable experience.” Her volunteer experience includes volunteering at the Ten Thousand Villages, a not-for-profit fair trade organization. Upon completion of her education, she is looking forward to continuing to work in Non-Profit organizations where she can help keep communities sustainable.

University of Alberta student, Shaylene Bachelet, is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science Program.  Shaylene was born and raise in the Two Hills area.  She was raised on fresh produce and meats without hormones which has lead her into the nutrition and foods science.  Summer employment at a medical clinic in Edmonton has further opened her eyes the importance of diet.  She writes, “Dieticians can help in shaping the population into a healthier and energetic lifestyle.”  Shaylene plans to become a Registered Dietician upon completion of her education.
